Executive Bios

Gilbert T. Gonzalez
President & Founder
MCS of Tampa, Inc.

As President and Founder of MCS, Mr. Gilbert T. Gonzalez (Gil) leads the company's overall strategic direction. A self-made entrepreneur, MBA and strategic management analyst, his career has been dedicated to changing the way small disadvantaged technology solutions businesses are perceived by Government contracting organizations and large national contractors. His depth and breadth of experience in designing IP-Converged Technology and IT/telecommunications mission critical solutions for commercial, military, and other Federal, state and local government clients has resulted in the fastest-growing privately owned technology firm in the Tampa Bay area for four years running. In 2000, Gil led MCS to become a certified minority owned 8(a) small disadvantaged business (SDB) as well as a certified HUBZone business. Under his leadership and guidance, MCS was a finalist in 2004 and 2005 for the Greater Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year, and in 2005 Gil was named the Small Business Person of the Year for Florida by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Gil is a goal-oriented team leader with diverse experience and proven ability to solve mission critical problems through business process analysis and the application of innovative technologies. He has an extensive knowledge of the Convergence/IP Automation industry. He has proven project management ability, with the skills necessary to administer and manage complex multi-discipline projects.
Gil has over 16 years of experience in the design, installation, and operation and maintenance of IP systems such as local, metropolitan, and wide area networks, fiber optic communication systems, and IP security and surveillance systems. Past design projects have included design-build communications for buildings and facilities for the City of Miami Beach, Florida, and the Orange County Convention Center, Phase II. Other sizeable projects he has successfully directed in the last two years include the Navy's Hurricane Ivan recovery project at NAS Pensacola, Saufley Field, and Whiting Field, Florida; USSOCOM Command and Control Center at MacDill Air Force Base; and a state-of-the-art Remote Video Surveillance System (RVSS) for U.S. Customs and Border Protection to secure the U.S. southern border south of the San Diego area and the U.S. northern border in Blaine, Washington.

In addition to leading a full-time staff  with branch and project offices located throughout the country, Gil has published both software and case studies related to the fields of Strategic Management and Business Policy. He personally holds both the Low-Voltage Specialty Electrical Contractor (ES) and an Unlimited Electrical Contractor (EC) licenses for MCS. He has also earned the designation of Registered Communication Distribution Designer (RCDD).

James V. Slagle, Jr.
Chief Operating Officer

As the Previous MCS Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing, James V. Slagle, Jr. (Jim) directed the company's strategic marketing direction and leads the company's sales staff. He has 25 years of diverse management and operational expertise in utilizing information systems technologies to streamline and enhance productivity and overall program effectiveness throughout the Federal and commercial marketplaces. He has expertise supervising and managing Federal and commercial contracts, to include subcontractor relationships, client interface, and quality control.

Jim has managed numerous complex efforts throughout his career, with direct experience in all aspects of the contracting and consulting fields, including business development, capture management, sales, design, installation and service, marketing, and project management. His leadership and industry expertise have refined the efficiency and maintained the quality of the company's service, and have enabled MCS to integrate new technologies in order to adapt to the changing corporate, education, and government market demands.

Jim's ability to create a business development team to assist customers in articulating their specific requirements, thereby providing them with the "right" solutions to meet their needs, has allowed MCS to repeatedly meet the cost, schedule, and performance goals of mission-focused organizations in both the Federal and commercial markets. This approach has resulted in MCS developing one of the most diverse and loyal customer bases of any Federal small business contractor in the southeast region.

Jim has helped lead MCS to unprecedented growth during a time of economic downturn. With remarkable forward thinking, he transitioned the image of a commercial-focused company with a complementary sales force into a much sought after Federal 8(a) and HUBZone contractor with a highly effective Federal business development team.

Jim's vision and hands-on leadership have directly resulted in MCS earning numerous industry licenses, certifications, and authorizations, which have led to key strategic relationships with many midsize and large corporations, including the majority of the top ten largest Department of Defense prime contractors.

The son of a U.S. Army Colonel, Jim grew up living all across the U.S. and Europe. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky. He has served for four years on the Executive Committee of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) and is a frequently sought after speaker in the small business development community.

 

 

Brian Calka
CFO
MCS of Tampa, Inc.

As Chief Financial Officer, Brian A. Calka provides leadership over our accounting department.  He is responsible for managing all of our financial and regulatory reporting as well as managing our corporate financial credit facilities.  Brian also manages many of our relationships with smaller business partners for effective administration with accounting/contractual issues. He guides them to winning strategies while growing strong relationships within the contracting community of the federal marketplace.  Additionally, Brian manages our Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) and Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) relationships to insure MCS’ continued compliance for eligibility for a variety of federal contracts.

Prior to coming to MCS Mr. Calka worked as a CFO for over 13 years at an industrial services and casting  company as well as a public records research firm that specialized in commercial background investigations and  clearances for the Department of Defense.  In his first post as a CFO, Mr. Calka held a Financial Operations Principal license (series 27) and managed an introducing broker dealer that privately placed small investment banking transactions, and offered financial advising services to its customers.  Prior to his efforts at the broker dealer, Mr. Calka worked as an analyst for Salomon Brothers in both New York and Tampa on their high yield and fixed income product lines.

Mr. Calka received his CPA license while working as an auditor on commercial and governmental clients for Coopers and Lybrand.  He is originally from Grosse Pointe Woods, MI and he holds a bachelors’ degree from Walsh College in Troy, Michigan.  With over 25 years of financial/accounting and contractual management experience, Mr. Calka brings a greatly valued insight to our executive management team. 

 

 

 John Varney
 Vice President, UC Operations
 MCS of Tampa, Inc.

John Varney is a Senior Telecommunications Professional with more than 30 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, with a heavy  concentration in engineering, project management, operations, sales, and financial responsibility.

John came to MCS as a seasoned expert with a strong technical and management background with a proven track record of success and achieving  results. Successful leader of divisional offices (multiple P&Ls), sales teams, project management and engineering teams that span multiple technologies.

John serves as a primary source for strategy, client advisory, recommendations and solutions, big-picture perspective, and quantitative corporate  business planning. Extensive experience in project management and developing improvement processes that provide maximum efficiencies and results.


 

 

 

 
                               

Chris Collins
Divisional President, Unified Communications

Chris Collin is the Divisional President of Unified Communications and has been with MCS for ten years. Chris leads the UC Sales and Sales Enablement effort with MCS. Further, He is responsible for the development and strategic expanding of unified communications capabilities based on products and services. With more than 30 years of telecommunication and unified communication industry experience, Chris has the comprehensive knowledge required to understand a broad UC market and the UC culture.

Before being promoted to Divisional President of Unified Communications May 2016, Chris was Vice President of Unified Communications for almost nine years.

Prior to joining the MCS team, Chris held a Sales Director position at Black Box Network Services. Chris earned his Bachelor of Computer Science from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina in 1986.
 

 

                               

Robert Mcnabb
Vice President of Sales
MCS Of Tampa Inc.

 

As the Vice President of sales for the Building and Electrical Technology Division, Robert McNabb has the responsibility of the Sales for Low Voltage Infrastructure Division and the Electrical Infrastructure Division. Mr. McNabb is responsible for managing the direct sales personnel and for evaluating and overseeing the sales strategy for the many customers and project opportunities that MCS successfully markets to and completes. This includes commercial infrastructure and state and local projects. As well as, developing strategic sales plans based on company goals that will promote sales growth and customer satisfaction for MCS.
Prior to MCS, Robert worked for NEC and Valley Communications in Massachusetts, for over 12 years. Mr. McNabb has been with MCS for 10 years and previously held the positions of General Manager, Director of Sales, Branch Manager, Sales Director, Sales Manager, Account Manager and numerous individual sales positions. He holds a Bachelor Degree from Florida State, is a Network+ Certified Professional and has developed and taught professional selling skills courses in corporate marketing positions
 

 

            
Doug Stacy
Divisional President of Professional Services

As the Divisional President of Professional Services, Doug Stacy is responsible for providing strategic vision, leadership, direction, and oversight of our professional services team located across the country. With more than 25 years of experience, Doug has been a results-driven leader, with a deep commitment to successfully growing MCS. Doug plays a key role in appropriating new business contracts and development for the professional services organization. He focusses on business development to gain new service engagements with new prospects and existing customers.  
 
He has been with MCS for 18 years. Before being promoted to President of Professional Services in May 2016, Doug was MCS’ Vice President of Contracts, where he spearheaded most of our large service contract efforts, within the Federal Government space, including all our military base support efforts.  He partners with executives and leaders across the organization to focus on service excellence, organizational effectiveness, and overall performance improvement. Doug possesses an enterprise-wide expertise driving strategy and implements solutions that continuously develop an evolving service-oriented function. 
 
Doug is originally from Fairfax Virginia, and prior to MCS, he worked for a number of defense contractors in the Washington DC metro area from multinational corporations to privately held small businesses. He has undergraduate degrees from VA Tech (Sept 1984 – June 1988) and Procurement & Contracts Management from Univ. of Virginia (Jan 1992 – Dec 1995) and is completing his EMBA at Univ. of South Florida (Aug 2016 – May 2018).
